Beats has launched the Powerbeats Pro 2, featuring heart rate monitoring, Active Noise Cancelling, and up to 45 hours of battery life. The earbuds include Adaptive EQ, Personalized Spatial Audio, and an IPX4 sweat resistance rating. Powered by Apple’s H2 chip, they offer improved durability and compatibility with fitness apps, including Android support.
Apple-owned Beats has introduced the Powerbeats Pro 2, nearly six years after the original version was released. This is the first time Apple has incorporated heart rate monitoring into its earbuds, designed specifically for workouts.

This launch is a key part of Apple’s broader strategy to enhance the healthcare features in its products. The Powerbeats Pro 2 offers an impressive 45 hours of battery life.

Key Features of Powerbeats Pro 2

The earbuds are equipped with heart rate monitoring sensors using LED optical technology, providing real-time workout data. They also feature Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) for improved focus, and Transparency Mode, which lets users stay aware of their surroundings.

With Adaptive EQ, the earbuds adjust the sound quality based on the wearer’s ear shape. They also support Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking for a more immersive listening experience.

The Powerbeats Pro 2 has an IPX4 rating for sweat resistance, offering protection from rain, snow, and heat—similar to the AirPods.

Each earbud includes a voice accelerometer and three advanced microphones, the same ones found in the AirPods Pro 2.

Design and Performance Improvements

The ear hooks on the Powerbeats Pro 2 are made from sport-grade nickel alloy, enhancing durability. Additionally, the overall weight of the earbuds has been reduced by 20%.

The new model is powered by Apple’s H2 chip, first introduced in the AirPods Pro 2. It comes with a wireless charging case, and Apple has replaced the previous Lightning port with a USB-C port. The Fast Fuel feature allows for a quick five-minute charge that provides up to 90 minutes of playback.

Extensive Testing for Peak Performance

Apple subjected the Powerbeats Pro 2 to rigorous testing, with over 1,500 hours of trials and nearly 1,000 athletes involved. Testing covered various activities, intensity levels, and environmental conditions to ensure optimal performance.

Compatibility with Fitness Apps

The Powerbeats Pro 2 is compatible with Apple’s fitness apps, as well as third-party apps like Peloton, Slopes, Open, Nike Run Club, Ladder, and YaoYao. Android users can also track heart rate using the Beats app.
