California's Governor Elena Rodriguez has declared a statewide drought emergency due to critically low water levels in reservoirs and groundwater, particularly impacting Central and Southern regions. The declaration aims to expedite infrastructure grants and financial aid for farmers facing substantial crop losses.

California Governor Elena Rodriguez declared a statewide drought emergency today and formally requested federal relief funds. The move comes after prolonged dry conditions significantly depleted reservoirs and groundwater supplies, especially in Central and Southern California.

The emergency declaration will enable fast-tracked infrastructure grants and financial support to farmers facing severe crop risks. Rodriguez warned, “Our water system is at a breaking point,” and urged President Biden to issue a federal disaster declaration. The White House has expressed openness to act swiftly on the request.
