Disney's live-action 'Snow White' has impressed early audiences with its enchanting visuals and compelling performances. Premiering on March 21, the film features Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot in leading roles. Critics have praised the movie for its emotional depth, new musical numbers, and Zegler's standout performance, positioning it as a potential favorite among live-action Disney adaptations.
Disney’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of “Snow White” has finally made its debut, and early reactions suggest that the film has captured the magic of the original while introducing fresh elements. The movie, which premieres in theaters on March 21, recently had a kid-friendly screening in Los Angeles, where stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot graced the red carpet in true fairytale fashion.
Zegler, known for her breakout role in “West Side Story,” embodied a real-life Disney princess at the event, dazzling in a peachy-pink strapless taffeta gown adorned with a butterfly-embellished corset. Her co-star, Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, opted for a dramatic black lace gown with a ruffled overskirt. Both actresses took time to engage with young fans, many of whom arrived dressed as the beloved princess.
Despite the film’s controversies—including changes to the depiction of the Seven Dwarfs and the casting of a Colombian and Polish actress in the lead role—initial reviews from select critics have been overwhelmingly positive. Early viewers have praised the movie’s enchanting visuals, compelling performances, and heartfelt story.
Variety’s Katcy Stephan described Zegler as a “shining supernova” and commended her ability to channel the grace and charm of the original Snow White. She noted that the film offers “a visual feast with show-stopping new musical numbers and dozens of enchanting animated animals.” Stephan also highlighted how the script provides Snow White with greater depth, portraying her as a leader inspired by her late father’s belief in her potential.
Screen Rant’s Ash Crossan called the movie “quite charming,” applauding its emotional impact, adorable animated critters, and Zegler’s mesmerizing vocal performance. Crossan even admitted that the film nearly brought her to tears—a rare feat for her.
Other critics echoed similar sentiments. Skyler Shuler of The DisInsider enthused that the remake is “pure Disney magic,” predicting that it will become a favorite among live-action adaptations. Meanwhile, Matt DeGroot of Crooked Media noted that, despite online skepticism, the film is “mostly successful,” with stunning visuals, catchy new songs, and Zegler’s star-making performance.
While full reviews, including USA TODAY’s, are expected on March 19, these early reactions indicate that Disney may have successfully breathed new life into one of its most cherished classics. With its blend of nostalgia and modern storytelling, the live-action “Snow White” seems poised to capture the hearts of audiences young and old.
