Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells are collaborating for a new comedy series. The show is titled Stay Tuned. It will stream on Hulu. This is a reboot of the 1992 film. The series has Akiva Goldsman and others as producers. The show will parody reality TV and streaming dramas. The premiere is expected in early 2026.
Actors and longtime friends Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells are reuniting for a new Hulu comedy series, “Stay Tuned,” a modern reboot of the 1992 cult classic film of the same name. The streaming platform announced the series on July 31, 2025, with production already underway.

The original 1992 movie starred the late John Ritter and Pam Dawber as a suburban couple who get trapped inside their television and are forced to survive a bizarre gauntlet of twisted TV shows. This updated series will follow a similar premise, reimagined for today’s hyper-digital media world, with Gad and Rannells leading the charge through increasingly absurd, genre-hopping television parodies.

Josh Gad confirmed the news via Instagram on Wednesday, captioning a photo of himself with Rannells, “For over a decade, @andrewrannells and I have been the Laverne and Shirley of our generation (according to our mothers).” He went on to joke, “It therefore only makes sense to now do a TV series where we can literally do an episode as ‘Laverne and Shirley’—assuming the rights to those characters aren’t prohibitively expensive and that the algorithm rewards ‘Laverne and Shirley’ viewership.”

Rannells echoed the excitement in his own Instagram post, writing, “Joshie and I are putting on a show with some new friends! We are very excited to be working with Akiva Goldsman, Greg Lessans, Jordan Cahan, and Hulu!”

Both Gad and Rannells share a deep theatrical history. The two originated roles in Broadway’s smash hit The Book of Mormon, earning Tony nominations for their performances in 2011. Their onstage chemistry has remained a fan favorite ever since.

Gad is also widely known for voicing Olaf in Disney’s Frozen franchise and for his starring role in the Apple TV+ animated series Central Park. Rannells has featured in films such as A Simple Favor, its sequel Another Simple Favor, and The Intern, and earned acclaim for his work in The Prom and HBO’s Girls.

“Stay Tuned” also brings heavyweight producers to the table, including Oscar-winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) and writers Jordan Cahan (Black Monday) and Greg Lessans. The series will blend nostalgic references with modern satire, aiming to skewer everything from reality TV to prestige streaming dramas.

While Hulu has not yet announced an official premiere date, the show is expected to debut in early 2026. The reboot is part of Hulu’s broader strategy to revitalize classic titles with fresh comedic takes for today’s audiences, especially as the platform builds out its original comedy slate under Disney ownership.

For fans of the original film—and for those who enjoy smart, irreverent comedy—Stay Tuned promises a wild ride through the screens we’re all trapped in.
