Zendaya set to star in sci-fi romance ‘Stellar Drift’ this winter
A Galaxy of Love AwaitsZendaya is blasting off into a new role—this time as the lead in Stellar Drift, a sci-fi romance film slated for theatrical release this December. Directed by Oscar nominee Ava DuVernay, the film explores a future where love is the only force that can bend time and space.
What’s the Plot?Set in the year 3089, Stellar Drift follows Solara (Zendaya), a cosmic diplomat assigned to negotiate peace between two warring planets. But when she falls for an alien historian (played by Euphoria breakout star Angus Cloud in his final completed role), the mission takes a heart-wrenching turn. The film is described as Interstellar meets The Notebook, packed with sweeping visuals and emotional depth.
Behind the ScenesFilmed across Iceland, New Zealand, and a cutting-edge virtual set in Los Angeles, Stellar Drift pushes the envelope of modern sci-fi storytelling. “We wanted to tell a story that felt intimate and colossal at once,” DuVernay shared in a recent interview. “And Zendaya was the only choice.”
Why This Role MattersAfter her critically acclaimed performances in Dune and Challengers, Zendaya continues to redefine the modern Hollywood star. Stellar Drift marks her first time producing a feature under her own company, Daylight Films.
Awards Season Buzz Already? While the film is still months away, early screenings for critics and distributors have reportedly sparked Oscar buzz for Zendaya. The film’s trailer is expected to drop mid-July, with fans eagerly awaiting a glimpse into what could be the year’s most surprising love story.
