Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos is hospitalized in stable condition after an injury during training camp. The incident occurred on Wednesday, and Matos has movement in all extremities. The team is providing support, but no timetable is set for his release or return. Matos joined the Dolphins through the NFL's International Player Pathway Program.
Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos remains hospitalized in stable condition at Ryder Trauma Care Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, a day after he was airlifted from the team’s training camp due to an undisclosed injury.
The incident occurred on Wednesday during the closing minutes of Day 1 of the Dolphins’ training camp. While the team has not provided specific details about the nature of the injury, it confirmed Thursday that Matos “has movement in all extremities and is in stable condition.” No timetable has been given for his release or return to football activities.
“It’s a really heartbreaking part of the game,” Dolphins offensive lineman Austin Jackson said following the injury. “Very tough.”
Matos, 24, joined the Dolphins as part of the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program, which aims to provide international athletes with opportunities to pursue professional football careers. Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Matos transitioned to football only a few years ago after initially focusing on baseball and basketball.
After moving to Tennessee for high school, Matos played college basketball at New Mexico before transferring to South Florida, where he continued his basketball career and later walked onto the football team. He began as a defensive lineman and special teams contributor before switching to the offensive line.
Standing 6-foot-7 and weighing 334 pounds, Matos went undrafted in 2024 but signed with Miami as a free agent through the league’s international development initiative. He spent time on the Dolphins’ practice squad and signed a reserve/future contract in January.
The Dolphins have not indicated how Matos’ injury might impact their training camp roster or depth chart but emphasized their support for his recovery. “The entire organization is focused on ensuring Bayron receives the best care possible,” the team said.
