Titans quarterback Will Levis will miss the entire 2025 season after deciding to undergo shoulder surgery scheduled for July 29. The injury, initially sustained in September 2024, impacted his performance last season. With Levis sidelined, veteran quarterbacks Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle are expected to compete for the backup role behind rookie Cam Ward.
The Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis will miss the 2025 NFL season after electing to undergo shoulder surgery, the team announced Monday. The procedure, scheduled for July 29, follows consultation with medical professionals and his representatives.
Levis, entering his third year with the Titans, had been competing for the backup quarterback position behind rookie Cam Ward, the team’s No. 1 overall draft pick in April. The Titans report to training camp on Tuesday.
“We support his decision to focus on his long-term health,” the team said in a statement. “He approached the offseason with professionalism and showed clear growth as a leader. We remain confident in his full recovery.”
The 24-year-old initially injured the AC joint in his right throwing shoulder on Sept. 30, 2024, in a game against the Miami Dolphins. While attempting to dive for a first down, Levis landed awkwardly, sustaining an injury that impacted his performance and availability for the remainder of the season.
Following a bye week, Levis returned to play in a narrow home loss to Indianapolis, where he threw a late-game interception. He later admitted the shoulder issue contributed to the error. He missed the next three games before returning to finish the season.
Levis started 12 games in 2024, throwing for 2,091 yards with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He was sacked 41 times, and the Titans finished 3-14, earning the top overall draft pick. The team used that selection to acquire Washington State quarterback Cam Ward, signaling a potential shift in their long-term quarterback strategy.
First-year head coach Brian Callahan has not named a starting quarterback for the upcoming season but said earlier this offseason that all signal callers would have a chance to compete. Despite participating fully in the offseason program, Levis’ decision to undergo surgery effectively ends his chance at earning a spot on the depth chart this year.
During minicamp in June, Levis expressed confidence in his development. “I feel like I’m starting to get to that point as a quarterback, and it’s just cool to feel that and see it and show everyone else here,” he told reporters.
The Titans have added veteran quarterbacks Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle this offseason, both of whom are now expected to compete for the backup role behind Ward.
Levis was selected with the No. 33 overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft by then-general manager Ran Carthon, who traded up to secure the former Kentucky standout. Carthon was dismissed in January after two seasons with the franchise.
In related news, the Titans announced Monday that their entire 2025 draft class has signed rookie contracts. Linebacker Oluwafemi Oladejo, selected No. 52 overall in the second round, was the final player to sign. The UCLA product recorded 4.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss last season after transitioning to an edge rusher role.
Tennessee begins its preseason schedule on Aug. 9 at Tampa Bay and opens the regular season Sept. 7 on the road against the Denver Broncos.
