Federal investigators have stepped up their response to the deadly shooting at Brown University, announcing a reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
The FBI’s Boston Division is now working alongside the Providence Police Department as the search continues for the person believed to be responsible for the attack, which left two students dead and nine others injured over the weekend.
The FBI released new images of an unknown suspect, describing the person as a male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a stocky build. Officials say the individual is wanted for questioning in connection with the shooting. FBI Director Kash Patel said additional federal resources have been deployed to assist local law enforcement. “The @FBI and @ProvidenceRIPD are releasing new images of a person of interest in the mass shooting at Brown University on December 13, 2025. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the individual. Anyone with information please contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI (225-5324) or the Providence Police Department at 401-272-3121. ” Patel wrote in a post on X (@FBIDirectorKash). According to Providence police, the shooting occurred inside the Barus & Holley building, which houses Brown University’s physics and engineering programs. The attack happened in a classroom setting on College Hill, a historic area near the center of campus.
Brown University President Christina H. Paxson called the incident an act of “devastating gun violence” in a statement released Sunday.
The university has asked anyone who was inside the building on Friday or Saturday to contact investigators, even if they believe their information is minor. “Even an incidental detail may be helpful in investigating,” the university said in a campus-wide update.
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee confirmed that state police are supporting the investigation and urged the public to come forward with any information. “Like so many Rhode Islanders, I am anxious to see the shooter identified and brought to justice,” McKee said in a statement announcing the reward.
Authorities say tips can be submitted directly to the FBI, and callers may remain anonymous. Investigators continue to review security footage, interview witnesses, and process evidence from the scene. Law enforcement officials have not announced any arrests, and the suspect remains at large.
Police are urging anyone who recognizes the individual in the released images or has relevant information to contact federal authorities immediately.
